Illustration for a Scuffle and Twitch assembly series

The Scuffle and Twitch project is a positive psychology initiative being used at Solihull School, which aims to help children develop qualities of resilience. Scuffle and Twitch are the Junior School mascots and they feature in assembles, learning resources and a stationery range. The illustrations are mixed media using colour pencil over acrylics, acrylic gouache, inks and watercolours.

Illustration for a Scuffle and Twitch assembly series

This spoof of the 1903 London Herald newspaper article about the Wright Brothers' first powered flight uses black colour pencil illustrations combined with a some desktop publishing. Researching the original article and writing a Scuffle and Twitch story based on that was great fun.

Logo design for Scuffle and Twitch stationery

Scuffle and Twitch have also inspired a range of stationery, including rulers, doodle pads and thank you cards. To accompany the illustrations I create hand-drawn lettering, such as on this logo that was commissioned for the stationery range.

Scuffle and Twitch BookBench for The Big Read, 2016

A Scuffle and Twitch Bookbench was commissioned by Solihull School during the Birmingham Big Read project and exhibited in John Lewis, Solihull, before becoming a permanent feature of the school. The title was 'Bedtime Stories' and the illustrations (painted in acrylics and varnished with yacht varnish) feature Scuffle and Twitch visiting a glaxy of learning and discovery in their dreams. Before painting the bench I created pencil-drawn designs in collaboration with the school.
